THE COOKIES
This was the first (1966) publicity shot, for Go-Set magazine, of three English sisters who called themselves The Cookies. Wendy, Margaret and Bev’s mum had driven them into Centenary Park in Brisbane for the occasion. They were so excited about the musical career they were beginning. They really knew how to harmonise, and how to move together on stage; and they had great fun! In 1967 they teamed up with Marcie Jones, as the sensational Marcie and The Cookies, and went on to become Australia’s top female group. Besides supporting many big-name acts during Australian tours, they spent a fair amount of time overseas, entertaining troops in Vietnam, and a lengthy stint as backing singers for Cliff Richard.
