The faces of artists, actors, musicians, and good friends have always fascinated me. I have been most fortunate to be chosen as the photographer of so many wonderfully talented people.
Quite apart from my commercial work, I have always kept a negative file marked ‘Personal’ which contains images representing special moments. Many of these pictures have never been seen in positive form.
It gives me great pleasure to be able to share these images, and the stories behind them. All images are available for purchase as gallery quality prints, via our Shop
1966 was a turbulent year, particularly for young Australians. Conservative Prime Minister Robert Menzies, who had been in power for 15 years, had retired in January, having embroiled the country in the unjust Vietnam War. Young men were being conscripted, and a powerful anti-war movement was spawned.
1966 was the year that Bob Dylan went ‘electric’, and Jimi Hendrix burst onto the scene. It was also the year that Timothy Leary exhorted young people to “Turn on, tune in, drop out”. The Hippies were in flower… exciting times indeed! They say that if you can remember the sixties, you weren’t there. I’m glad I had a camera.
